Windows says “Windows protected your PC” when I run the server installer

That’s Microsoft SmartScreen being cautious about a newly released app. Our installer is code-signed (Jeffrey Wilson) and safe — click More info → Run anyway. The prompt goes away as more people install it during the beta.

How do I set up the server?

Download the server for your edition from the download page, run it on a Windows or Linux PC, and follow the 5-minute wizard (storage folder + port). When it finishes, open http://localhost:5173 to confirm it’s running.

How do I connect my phone to the server?

In the app tap “Yes — Connect to My Server” and scan the QR code your server shows (phone and server on the same Wi‑Fi). You can also choose Enter Address Manually and type the server address + access code.

It says “QR code expired” or won’t pair

Pairing codes are short-lived for security — generate a fresh QR on the server and scan it right away. Make sure the phone and server are on the same network (or that the server’s remote tunnel is running for off-network pairing).

What are the beta limits?

During the beta you get a 14‑day / 1 GB trial to evaluate the full flow. That’s plenty to test backup, restore and scheduling. Longer testing options for active participants are coming.

Can I reach my server when I’m away from home?

Yes — the server automatically opens a secure tunnel on startup so your phone can reach it from anywhere, no port‑forwarding needed. If it’s unreachable, restart the server to re‑establish the tunnel.

How do I restore my files?

Open Backup History & Restore in the app to browse your backups and download individual files or an entire backup session back to your device.

Is my data encrypted?

Backups go only to your server — we never receive them. You can also turn on optional end‑to‑end encryption with a passphrase only you hold. ⚠️ If you enable it and lose the passphrase, encrypted backups cannot be recovered — not even by us. Keep it somewhere safe.

I reinstalled the app and it won’t pair

Just re‑pair from the app — your existing backups stay in place. If you switched between a sideloaded APK and the Google Play build, uninstall the old one first (different signatures), then install and pair fresh.
