Welcome to URVault

URVault is a self-hosted backup app. You install the server software on hardware you own, pair your mobile device, and your files back up directly to your server — with no middleman. These Terms govern your use of the URVault mobile app and server software (together, "the Service") provided by URVault LLC ("we," "us," "URVault").

By using URVault you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please uninstall the app and do not use the software.

Your Server, Your Rules

URVault is designed to put you in control. You own and operate your server. URVault LLC provides the software tools; you provide the infrastructure. This means you are responsible for:

• Setting up and maintaining your server
• Keeping your server secure (passwords, network access, physical security)
• Ensuring your server has enough storage
• Keeping your server online when you want backups to run

Because you control your server completely, you also bear responsibility for anything that happens on it. The upside: your data is yours, stored where you decide, never accessible to us.

License to Use the Software

URVault LLC grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the URVault app and server software for your own personal backup purposes. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or sublicense the software. All intellectual property rights remain the exclusive property of URVault LLC.

No Warranty — Software Provided "As Is"

THE URVAULT SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, URVAULT LLC EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

In plain English: we have worked hard to build reliable software, but we cannot guarantee it will always work perfectly. Please treat URVault as one layer of your backup strategy, not the only one.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, URVAULT LLC AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS ($50.00).

The good news: because your data lives on your server — not ours — you are not at risk of URVault LLC losing your data, exposing your data, or going offline and taking your files with it. Your server, your data, your control.

Backup Disclaimer

URVAULT LLC DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT ANY BACKUP WILL BE COMPLETE, ACCURATE, OR RECOVERABLE.

Backup success depends on your network connection, server availability, available storage, and the condition of your files. We strongly encourage you to periodically verify backups, perform test restores, and maintain additional copies using other methods.

Encryption and Security

When encrypted backups are enabled, your files are encrypted on your device using keys that only you control. URVault LLC never has access to your encryption keys and cannot decrypt or recover your encrypted data — even if you lose your keys. This means total privacy for you — and zero ability for us to help if keys are lost. Please store your keys safely.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use URVault to back up or distribute content that violates any applicable law, infringes intellectual property rights, or contains malware. URVault LLC is not responsible for the content you back up — you own your server and you are responsible for what is stored on it.

Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally shall be submitted to binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association. You waive the right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration against URVault LLC.

Changes to These Terms

Updates are posted at https://urvault.net/terms with a revised effective date. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app. Continued use of URVault after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

No Guarantee of Data Recovery

URVault is designed to be a reliable backup solution, but no backup system can guarantee 100% data recovery in all circumstances. Factors outside our control — server hardware failure, network outages, insufficient storage, software bugs — can affect backup and recovery. URVault LLC is not liable for data loss under any circumstances.

Your Encryption Keys, Your Responsibility

If you enable encrypted backups, your encryption keys are stored exclusively on your device and server. URVault LLC has no copy. If you lose your keys, your encrypted files cannot be recovered by anyone — including us. This is the price and the promise of true end-to-end encryption.

Test Your Backups

We genuinely recommend periodically restoring a test file to confirm everything is working. A backup you have never tested is a backup you have never confirmed. URVault's restore feature makes this easy — give it a try.

Server Security

Your server is your responsibility. Use strong passwords, keep your server software updated, and restrict network access appropriately. URVault LLC cannot protect a misconfigured or publicly exposed server.
